SF-98-22-3 — Operating Strategy for Dynamic Ice Thermal Storage System
This paper describes the dynamic ice storage system installed in a 1.6 million ft2 (.15 million m2) mixed-use facility in Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. The operating strategies recommended are based on personal experience of hands-on operation of the HVAC system for over six months during the first year of operation. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the system design intent and the impact of the thermal storage system operation on the annual building electrical operating cost. It summarizes the problems associated with the operation of a dynamic ice storage system and includes recommendations for optimizing its operation to meet the design intent. It also points out the important role of a well-trained, intelligent operator in achieving the maximum in operating cost savings.
