This Practice provides information for performing an arc flash hazard analysis as required by NFPA 70E and IEEE C2. It provides guidance on the determination of the arc flash boundary, the incident energy at the working distance, and arc flash pressure. This information can be used to mitigate the possibility of an arc flash event through engineering controls or in the proper selection of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Arc flash risk assessment, as required by NFPA 70E, is outside the scope of this document.
