Three buildings having earned the SHASE Annual Award are presented. The first is a thermo-active building with radiation fins and spot fans attached to slab surfaces. Another building introduces a complex heat source system using air-cooled chillers and gas-burning absorption chillers combined with a heat storage water tank for resiliency and ecology. The tank helps minimize heat source capacity, boost chiller efficiency and supply water in emergencies. The third building in a coastal area introduces a highly flexible air-conditioning system combining water-source VRV systems and a buffer water storage tank, which would be unaffected by the external environment.
