3182 — Correlations for Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Factors for Direct Expansion Air Cooling and Dehumidifying Coils
Correlations for heat transfer and pressure drop factors are required for the design of direct expansion (DX) coils and for development of their performance simulation methods. Such correlations for DX-coils are very limited in the existing literature. Experimental studies were conducted on 10 coils with varied fin spacing and tube rows, and correlations for the average heat transfer and pressure drop factors were developed by regression analysis of the experimental results. The correlations developed and a discussion of the effects of the coil geometric parameters and the fluid flow parameters on the heat transfer and pressure drop factors are presented.
