Scope:
This method covers the measurement of theoxygen transfer rate (OTR) as a mass of oxygenper unit time dissolved in a volume of water by anoxygen transfer system operating under given gasrate and power conditions. Methods for measurementof gas rate and power are also described in theAnnexes A and B, respectively. The method is applicableto laboratory-scale oxygenation devices withsmall volumes of water as well as the full-scalesystem with water volumes typical of those foundin the activated sludge wastewater treatment process. The procedure is valid for a wide variety of mixingconditions.
The primary result of this test is expressed asthe standard oxygen transfer rate (SOTR), a hypotheticalmass of oxygen transferred per unit of timeat zero dissolved oxygen concentration, water temperatureof 20°C, and barometric pressure of1.00 atm (101.3 kPa) under specified gas rate andpower conditions. The method is intended primarilyfor clean water meeting the requirements ofSections 5.2 and 6.3. The results can be applied toestimate oxygen transfer rate in process water asdescribed in Commentary G.
